I know people say the Smash cards get corrupted easily but I got mine from a game store that tests all games before they accept them (I've traded stuff in to them before, so I know this from experience), and all my game cards seem clean and in decent condition, so I don't know why this is happening.

I think the cartridge itself is broken. I would guess the store “tested” the game by just putting it in and making sure it appears on the home screen. I bought a copy of kirby planet robobot from my local game store that said all of their games were tested but I had the exact same issue as you.
I wonder if your hardware is starting to fail or something.
I vaguely recall Smash using a lot of processing power and it was taxing on the early 3DS systems. See if you can test the cartridge. See if any of your friends have a New 3DS, New 3DS XL, or 2DS XL. Those 2nd wave 3DS systems should have more processing power and can handle Smash much more smoothly.
