My 2ds is in rough shape it fell and the screen went black and turned off. After adjusting the battery i got it to boot up for less than a second and saw the broken screen. I was gonna replace the screen but I have no idea why it won't boot up? Would it just be easier to replace it?

3ds/2ds consoles do a hardware check before booting to make sure everything is working. If something isn’t (like the screen) it might not be able to turn on. It will probably work once you replace it! Luckily you don’t have to deal with the nightmare hinges on the 3ds systems
