Maybe I'm not seeing it the way the rest of the world does, but the fog version literally ruins the game? Lik It's not even an aesthetic choice at this point, it genuinely makes the experience worse imo. The game is so much more enjoyable without this disgusting piss-stain fog, so why is this the version that 99.9% of players will end up playing?

You do you, but I like the fog. I wouldn’t mind turning it down a bit, though.
the fog hides the seams. It also allows the developers to only let you see as much as they want you to, hiding future parts of the zone from view until they want you to see it, to build up anticipation etc.
It’s an artistic choice, and it certainly accentuates and adds to the game in terms of adding to the atmosphere.
I’d argue based on your screenshots that removing it all leaves things looking too busy and muddled.
