I remember when the OG 3DS dropped and for someone who was like 5 at the time who's only gaming experience came from my dad's SNES, seeing my cousins play Street Fighter IV and Nintendogs was like opening my eyes to a whooole other world I NEEDED that
2013 came around and my mom picked up a 3DS XL for me and my sister on Christmas and I was HOOOOKEEED didnt even buy any games with it i spent countless of hours on face raiders and street pass mii plaza swapnote and the voice recording app for some odd reason I guess I just thought the voice changer stuff was fun
Soon enough though I would get my first game, New Super Mario Bros 2. To me that was peeeeeak gaming me and my little sister would play co op (I still think the game holds up great now #tbh)
I also remember my elementary school having this event where Chris Paul came and gave everyone in my class $100 and I used that to buy two copies of super smash bros 3ds. Peak gaming its lowkey better than the WII U version that smash run mode clears Sakurai please bring it back and my life is yours. I was a dedicated Pit and Lucario main they were just too cool
I remember picking up Super Mario 3D Land and Animal Crossing New Leaf (the best one) but because I got all my games physically I and my sister had a really bad habit of losing our games somewhere. So I think in total we had 5 copies of each respective games cause we kept losing them #whoops
Never had much experience with digital games. Generally just free games and those limited demos (why were they limited?) Nintendo Badge Arcade, Pokémon Shuffle, Rumble World, Ironfall Invasion, the Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Special Demo, the list goes onnnnnnn
Mario & Luigi and Yokai Watch were prolly my first real introduction to the RPG genre. I got super far into Dream Team but never beat it idk why not it was such a fun game. Yo Kai watch was and is peak my goat jibanyan could do no wrong. It lead me into getting into series like persona in the future and led me to pick up the Persona Q games, Shin Megami Tensei games, and Etrian Odyssey as well (SMTIV prolly being one of my favorite games of all time its too good Atlus please give me a port)
Mario & Sonic 2016 Rio was alright prolly the only game I thought was kinda ehhh
Rayman 2 was oh so good the vibes was there I just deeply wished there was a multi-player mode as a kid so I could play with my sister
Kid Icarus Uprising was awesome when I didnt lose my stylus I spent so many hours in the online mode that was prolly my COD growing up (2 very completely different games)
DUDE MIIVERSE WAS SOOO SILLY THE AMOUNT OF FRIENDS I MADE THERE THAT I NWVER GOT TO SPEAK TO AGAIN AGGGH MAKES ME SO SAD shoutout pooh u were a real one
I think that's some of the gsmes I have fond memories of. I just like thinking of the home screen and whatnot. It had such a nice vibe and the various menu music and sound effects were so memorable I put it on my steam deck lol. Those eshop themes stay in my head 24/7. I loved getting new themes for the home menu I would swap the SMT4A and Sonic Generations themes around a lot I think it was because those were free?
When it eventually snapped this year bro I was in AGONNYYYY. I had never broke my 3ds to this point and I've been in denial ever since. My sister's red 3ds snapped but it was during a time where nintendo still sold new Nintendo 3ds so she just got one of those. They arent selling any now, so that sucks a lot. Sometimes I feel a little salty knowing how they're in high demand rn because I imagine how many ppl buy one just to put homebrww on it and toy around for like 3 days and never use it again, but it's okay. Its still worth it just to hear that initial boot up sound again lol.
But yeahhh from everyone I've spoken to my 3DS is pretty much cooked im gonna let it rest now. Maybe I'll get a new Nintendo 3ds in the future. Maybe I'll get an AYN Thor, those look cool. Who knows. Very greatful to be able to have my 3ds for so long
