And just like that, RosalinaxPeach shippers have now have to deal with what happened to CorrinxAzura shippers

so they’re just also retconning Rosalina’s actual origin story from galaxy 1? That sucks

Lol once these dudes get one taste of Hollywood the integrity of the story and characters completely shift in their favor.

Edit: Worded this awkwardly. What I mean is, Miyamoto never cared about the story until his characters got a Hollywood movie and the stories here are now “legitimate”. Miyamoto recently made comments that Mario and other characters feel “real” now that they are in Hollywood movies.

Tbf they looked so much like each other in the games that it just makes sense to go down this road, im just wondering how this changes the brother and father part of the story.

Not sure how to feel about this, but does this sort of confirm Galaxy 3 will be revisited someday?

Just ignore this. Miyamoto has never cared about story in his games. It has given us some of the best characters and games of all time, and changed gaming in general, but his word on lore and story should not be taken as gospel.

As soon as it said “machine translation”, the article lost its…I don’t want to say “credibility”, but machine translation is known to be inaccurate. It is known that Nintendo has always been careful not define its characters too much. Personally, I’m going to give this article the benefit of the doubt as far as its translation goes. However, I don’t think anyone should take this as meaning that Peach’s movie backstory is now suddenly canon to the games.

It never fails to amuse me how invested people get in videogame narratives that were clearly cobbled together in five minutes just to give some sort of context. The absolute worst are the Zelda timeline people.

    9. Well if they properly explore it and have any kind of relationship between characters that would be neat, but usually the non RPG games are pretty barebones in that regard so uuuuh, good luck.

    10. And here I thought the strength of Mario’s story (what little there is) was that the canon is incredibly loose and flexible, allowing for each title to do whatever best suits the game they’re trying to make. This feels like a needless restriction.

    11. Peach being Rosanila’s Sister doesn’t bother me. What do bother me is both being created by star dust.

    12. This is a fear I’ve had with all these movies. I don’t want them to influence the games at all. They’re fine enough but I truly truly despise how Mario and Luigi are from Brooklyn in the real world. As much of a legend as he is I don’t trust Miyamoto with Mario’s story/lore at all. He hates stories and it’s been repeatedly shown. Which isn’t to say Mario needs a big fancy story but stuff like Rosalina’s storybook add so much to the games despite not being a that involved.

I kinda liked it in the movie. Sometimes reworking old stories to give them some structure/connective tissue works. It’s not like Mario lore was ever consistent before.

I genuinely can’t believe anyone cares about the relationship between two characters in a game with almost no focus on story.

    15. i just can’t stop thinking “What was the point of the new version of Rosalina’s book then?” because even in it, it doesn’t reference Peach.

Unless… they made a more story-driven game, explaining that what Rosalina thought her origin was, it was a lie. But i don’t see a Mario game going more story-driven, anytime soon.

    16. Why should I care about this when this is the same guy who was vehemently against the very addition of the storybook in 1?

Man Rosalina really had to take a hit for Peach in this movie, watch out Daisy.

    18. This doesn’t mean much.

Time and time again, Nintendo fans continue to be shocked that Nintendo’s most decorated creators hardly care about story at all. We’ve heard endlessly that (especially with Miyamoto) gameplay mechanics come first, and the story is just an afterthought. Then fans get up in arms when this groundbreaking narrative they have in their head falls apart.

    19. I mean canon lore in Mario games I feel like have always been tenuous at best. Although the two characters look so much alike that I mean I’m not going to be mad at the fact, especially as they’ve only ever interacted in party games that it might bring Rosalina more into main line entries. Also rip Daisy.

I mean… when Rosalina was introduced back in Galaxy. We all kinda thought that they were related before the game was released.

      Right? Right??

    21. Zestyclose_Push7523 on

Are you sure Miyamoto, who famously couldn’t give a fuck about story in games didn’t just kind shrug and say “yeah whatever that’s fine who cares?”

    22. If this leads to a creation of Super Mario Galaxy 3 and if it leads to a Revelation Story of writing Peach and Rosalina being related, it will attract a nuclear heat from the Fans across this Universe.

    23. I mean… sure. Until it changes again and again with every game.

Mario games have NEVER had consistent narratives that connect to each other. Each game is its own self-contained story.

That’s not going to change anytime soon.

So this is a complete nothing-burger.
