Hopefully they’ll drop the modern sections, and all that assassin looking for the golden apple of Ishra from the Garden on Tanktata or whatever the plot was, and start you at the point you’re given the pirate ship and tell you to live your best pirate life and terrorise the high sea.

I loved AC4 but I hope that this remake dials back the ship stuff a bit. Not sure if that’s a hot take, but I found sailing around and grinding out materials to upgrade my ship extremely tedious.
EDIT: Have people just memory holed the fact that the resource gathering was intentionally tedious? The game included microtransactions to just buy upgrade materials and it was clear that that aspect of the game was balanced to push players toward buying them.

It looks way better than i thought. Looks more like a remaster than a remake, it’s great – it looks and feels like black flag.
The combat looks like complete garbage though.

Okaaaaay this looks pretty good. I was iffy on it until I saw the more commentary part of the reveal after. I’m not entirely sold on the combat because it does lean more into the action flow of the newer games, which I don’t like, but there is a conscious attempt at keeping some of the flow of Black Flag OG which I much prefer. The parkour too but it’s not too bad. I just don’t want Edward to feel weightless.
However, this reveal gave me more hope. Not holding my breath but I’m just happy to get a true Assassin’s Creed, non RPG mainline game again. Mirage was decent but also messy but is one of the true greats in the franchise. I’m much more excited about this for now. Visually it looks gorgeous btw.

Honestly, I was hoping for more from the combat. This just looks like more Arkham Knight/Witcher 3. Animations are jank, swords don’t connect. I really wanted them to take a crack at implementing a basic For Honor style. Oh well…

I’m probably in the minority, but I never had any interest in the original 2-3 Assassin’s Creed games. Back when it released in 2013, Black Flag piqued my interest because of the setting and wider open world. Though I never finished it, it opened the door to me really enjoying the rpg-based games that came later (Odyssey is literally one of my favorite games of all time).
This remake looks like they fused some of what I loved about those later games into the pirate setting / world of the original and, despite it not being an “rpg,” I have to say it looks great. The updated combat and graphics are worth it alone for me.

Looks good, but I was kinda hoping we’d get the option to fight with a wider variety of weapons instead of just dual swords.
EX: One-handed swords, axes, daggers, rifles, etc.

The best feature is the world being seamless now. OG Blackflag had uou load into each major island despite seeing it right infront of u.

I never played the original, so this is basically a brand new Assassin’s Creed pirate era game for me. The atmosphere looks like it’ll be an epic place to get lost in!
