    [Rumor] Nadji Jeter (Miles Morales) states that Insomniac’s Venom game was internally scrapped

    In a interview with Jamie Lovett of YouTube podcast series Love It Film, the actor confirmed that Insomniac was developing a standalone game centered on Venom building off the character's debut in Spider-Man 2, but that it completely went up in smoke due to the untimely passing of the voice actor Tony Todd back in 2024. He didn't elaborate on much other than referencing the single mission in Spider-Man 2 where you briefly take control of the Lethal Protector and go on a rampage in the Oscorp offices, as a reference for what the game would've played like.

    Update: Jason Schreier has said the rumors are not true (did not confirmed if the game is still in production or not). The REDACTEDSpider account on Twitter says still being decided whether Venom will be a cross gen title like Miles Morales, or if it should be a PS6 title that will lead into Spider-Man 3 which will be a PS6 exclusive.

      I hope not I know plains change all the time but I was thinking venom game 2027 and spiderman 3 in 2028-29. It seemed like spiderman 2 set up to much for just a 3rd game with carnage side missions and some of the other stuff. Figured venom would be the game with carnage has goblin/ock/carnage all in 1 game seems like to much if that’s all in spiderman 3.

      There’s a developer on ResetEra hinting that’s not true and the game were being discussed at GDC some weeks ago.

      I think it’s weird Spider-Man 2 never got any dlc or expansions at all. Maybe a few costumes around launch window and then no updates despite it selling so well

      Or we could just idk… recast? No sense in pretty much erasing a fan favorite character that had a very underwhelming portrayal in the game he was present in. Guess we are forever stuck with Uncle Terry tho😔

      As long as it didn’t cost jobs/people got fired, then I’m glad. Venom is a fun side character to play as as a small part of a game (spider man 2). But I don’t really see the point of an entire game. Think this was a more hot idea for Sony when the venom films were coming out but now it’s kinda flamed out.

      Yet another case of people refusing to recast a popular character because of an unfortunate passing and completely destroying the character’s story in the process.

      I loved Tony Todd’s performance as Venom, but at the end of the day he was just voicing the character, not providing facial capture for him. They could have very easily employed one of the many other VAs that played Venom in the past couple of years and continue forward with the project (especially since Venom would most likely have an entirely new host if he were to show up again, which could’ve silently explained away the voice change.)

      It should be noted we don’t know if he’s saying that it is cancelled for another reason or if its not cancelled

      Personally, I didn’t enjoy playing briefly as Venom in SM2. Just wasn’t fun for me

      Considering how much Sony has sucked lately I wouldn’t be surprised if the game was canned.

      I dont see why they would cancel it. Venom is a very popular character. A spin off with him would sell well.

      spider man 2 was a bit of a drag. it was too long and the challenges were so repetitive.

      No disrespect to Tony Todd but he barely had any lines in spider-man 2 to even be considered his own version of the character yet

      Would be stunned if this was canceled. I think we’ll hear more about this shortly after Wolverine hits, likely Summer next year when they reveal the PS6 lineup. It’ll be a similar crossgen title like Miles Morales.

      I really hope it’s not cancelled. Venom is my favorite character, I was so looking forward to this game! We need to start a petition to get them to make it!

      I don’t really think that the claims about the cancellation of the Venom game are true. Especially since I think there’s hardly any game that’d be a better launch PS6 seller than Venom. Now, is it a cross-gen game (like *Spider-Man Miles Morales* was) or a PS6 exclusive? I think it’s the former, and Spider-Man 3 might not be a PS6 exclusive either, especially if it’s still releasing in 2028.
