Which one did better for their respective series because until DKC for Wii/WiiU and 3DS, it was left behind in the 90s basically with the exception of the ports to the GBA while NSMB came earlier but 2D Mario specifically was also left in the 90s outside of ports to the GBA of the original games

I feel NSMB is more influential but as for better, I'm not sure. Nostalgia tells me NSMB but otherwise both I'd say are pretty good

Obviously NSMBDS as it was originally released on a handheld and set the trend for games that started in 2D and transitioned to 3D during the 5th and 6th generation of Video Games to come back to its 2D roots like Sonic Mania, Rayman Origins and even Donkey Kong Country Returns.

Forgive me, but I just want to take this opportunity and express my bewilderment at New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo DS. Having played it recently, which was preceded by playing Super Mario Bros. 3 on the GBA, I have to say that it’s too easy, too short, and pretty dull. SMA4: SMB3 is phenomenal in contrast. What gives? Why the shift?
