And with this review they managed to reduce score on Metacritic to 87

How is this game a 6? Boggles the mind.

Edit: Review begins with the phrase “I never hated Returnal”. I take back my question. Great choice of an individual to test the game, I guess.

Edit 2: “Saros is a much more approachable game than Returnal, and I think that is somewhat to its detriment.”, then complaining the game is too easy. Why doesn’t he use modifiers to make it impossible then?

    3. Ahh he didn’t like Returnal so he says he didn’t like this too….dont know what he expected tho lol

    4. While 3/5 is a little harsh, there’s plenty of legitimate criticism there that I also agree with to be honest.

    5. Read the review, seems fair although 3/5 isn’t the same as 60/100 as metacritic sees it, but that’s the downside of using the 5 star system.

I got the reviewers point much better than the ign one at least.

    6. Just read it and this is just a rambling of someone not liking the game, which is absolutely fine. The shitty part about it is that giantbomb actually holds some weight around the review landscape.

Reviews are nothing more than the opinion of a journalist who, supposedly, played the game inside and out.

Not everyone is alike and not everyone likes the same things.

Do I think a review should be based on more fundamental things about games? Yes, I do. But I guess thats not how it works.

We can all disagree with Jeff, it wont matter. Its his opinion and he can do it as he pleases. If it was on reddit he would get downvoted into obvlivion because God forbid if you dont agree with the masses.

I applaud Jeff for just giving his honest opinion and not being swayed by what is expected even if I disagree with it.

It’s a valid criticism: this aspect of Saros is definitely weaker than in Returnal, and it strikes me that a number of sequels recently have had this issue of sanding down the sharp edges to reach a wider audience and justify the insane price tag of games these days (Death Stranding 2 comes to mind).

However it doesn’t really explain why the given numerical score is so low. If Saros is 6/10 then that doesn’t leave much room for any other action game, because despite the above mentioned flaw it’s an exceptional experience nonetheless.

Also, why is this review written in such bland, insipid prose? There are so many talented critics out there who can write a review that’s worth reading even when you don’t disagree with it. Long form criticism is an art form like any other, and the best games journalists reveal new things about the games I’ve played through their eloquence – even when I don’t agree with them. This reads like a long Reddit comment.
