This game is nowhere near impressive enough to blame the series s! And the “oh it’s an indie dev” excuse doesn’t justify this either

The Series S excuse is the perfect excuse to get free extra publicity and a not so subtle plea to Microsoft to throw them a Gamepass deal for the port.

They’re not the first ones to do it and you guys keep falling for this because gamers online are ridiculously predictable…

I’m not a developer nor an insider so I can’t speak on the exact details that delays this stuff but from what we can see as the consumer, this *Series S is holding the Xbox launch back* just sounds like a convenient excuse for *you’re low on our priority list*.

    3. Why even post a thread about a game if you’re not going to name the darn game?

    4. Shinobi_Dimsum on

Exactly what I was saying yesterday. Series S is running all these heavy games and soon GTA 6, gears E-day etc. But somehow a indie game can’t run on the S? 😒 “dev” is just fishing for a game pass money bag from Microsoft with his lame ass excuses.

    5. Ship first, optimize later.

People let off way too many devs get away with it just because the game is critically acclaimed.

The fact that multiple devs have said they had issues with Series S and Xbox wasn’t even going to get Baldurs Gate 3 because of the Series S shows that it is an issue

    7. yeah i feel like a lot it is the devs fault. no rest for the wicked released as a complete mess and ran like garbage

    8. It took CDPR YEARS to optimize this game even for PC…this isn’t the ratio you think it is.

Absolutely yes the Series S is causing countless delays everywhere due to it’s hardware and Microsofts unrealistic demands.

    9. I’m not going to pretend to be an expert, but it sounds like a cop out exclusive for being bad at your job. People want to pretend that the Series S is a toy compared to the gaming power houses it stands beside. I have a Series S, because at the time when everything was sold out, this became available and later I got a PS5, but I haven’t noticed any difference in performance.

Your comparing a massive AAA dev with bottomless resources to a small cloud based independent studio.

The reality is it probably does take a bit of work to optimize the game to get it running on Series S and they just don’t have the resources to do that optimization right now.

    11. Of course it’s not Moon studios uses any chance to bash Xbox. At this point anyone should know if you bash the series S it basically gets free publicity for your game. Gamers will eat that up and pay more attention to that game that otherwise would have gone unnoticed.

Plus the toxic culture of Moon studios no one support that game.

    12. It’s definitely something to do with the devs, and not the series S. I bought this game on PC when it first came out and it would run at like 20fps half the time on a 3070. I hope it’s at least a little more opitmized now.

Thomas the owner and CEO of the studio has had beef with Xbox in the past (Ori devs). This is not surprising coming from him.

I play this on my steamdeck, at this point just an excuse to not develop for the platform

So they released ori the will of the wisps on the series s at launch back in 2020 it ran at 1080p HDR 120fps or 4K 60fps but of course they can’t optimise a game for it now ermm 🤔🤦

I love having a low end device as a base target for consoles, which is why I’m excited for the ps6 portable system which will be the bottom line next generation similar to the series s this generation.

That being said, cyberpunk running well on series s doesn’t quite me it can handle anything no problem. The thing about cyberpunk is that it was targeting last gen. Yes it was too much for that generation, but there were a lot of attempts to optimize the game for that hardware, and a lot of limitations put into development from the beginning to attempt to target that hardware. This makes it much more possible to run at 60fps on current gen consoles in general similar to most cross gen games.

With current gen games the biggest issue of the series s is its install base. The series x and series s have sold around 20+ million units combined. Most of them are series s, but it’s almsot 50/50. In general this means the device itself is never considered the bottom line hardware to target. If you check modt games, it feels like ps5 is the bottom line, and devs scale down everything from there for the series s. This makes it harder for most games to run or look that good on it since it ends up being an afterthought.

The portable ps6 has a better chance of achieving that though, because of how much better playstation hardware sells, which meand the portable system will likely sell very well.

You should have seen cyberpunk when it first came out on series S. Completely UNPLAYABLE.

    18. Series S is noted as causing several games issues in the past and causing delayed Xbox launch windows. Black Myth Wukong skipped initial launch due to issues, Baldurs Gate 3 required extra help from Microsoft to get it running, and Steel Rising faced issues prior to launch (although they got a unified release date for all platforms eventually).

Some devs have even said they ask Microsoft for help and go months with no reply.

Also I think we are forgetting what state Cyberpunk 2077 launched in. They got the next gen version later after CDPR had to optimize the hell out of it on console after it got delisted on PS4 and Xbox One.

I get this is the Xbox sub and it feels like we’ve been wronged due to this excuse but multiple devs have had issues and Xbox wants the game to run on both Series S and X consoles (rightfully so) but the lower specs have caused hurdles with more than just this one game.

THE GAME IS NO REST FOR THE WICKED

I’m sorry if it wasn’t obvious enough, but this has been discussed extensively in the xbox gaming space and I thought it was already obvious of what I was talking about. Plus to my knowledge, no game has been delayed for the xbox recently.

So yeah, apologies for the confusion. It was my mistake

    20. Born2beSlicker on

They’ve never said it’s not possible. They said they’re having a harder time optimising for it, meaning it’s going to take more effort to get parity with the other systems. They also said Switch 2 needs more work to get there.

Every game is built different and it’s not just graphics.

    21. Ok-Suspect624 on

The dev in question is Thomas Mahler, who has a ***VERY LONG HISTORY*** of shitting on Xbox and Microsoft in general after being soured from Ori and The Blind Forest (he doesn’t own the IP, MS does). Aside from his vitriol against Microsoft, his excuses keep changing every year, too. Now it’s Series S, lol. He knows what he is doing.

    22. Ever since the series S came out any dev that complains about it just gets dunked on. There’s been way way to many devs complaining about it for me to believe it’s all just some big conspiracy theory. Even before the series S released several devs complained about the amount of RAM on it.

IMO it just makes the games harder to get working on the system and anyone trying to deny that is just being delusional. Sure it can be done, sure it can help the game overall. The issue is game dev cost are just going up and up and asking these devs to spend even more time optimizing for a device that has less RAM than a Steamdeck is most likely a PIA and can make them question if this is a financially smart move.

    23. AnOrneryOrca on

Cyberpunk, which famously released on time and with all of its features in perfect shape on all platforms.

    24. The devs have previously made comments about their relationship with Xbox based on the Ori games that they made. So, I can see them making the Xbox platform a low priority for the game.

    25. Lord_Jashin on

So now we’re just forgetting how fuckin dogshit Cyberpunk was on release? It’s a decent enough game now, but this feels like a take you can only have if you missed launch by a wide margin. Would absolutely prefer a game is delayed until it can release in a functioning state, rather than selling trash and fixing it later
