Sony is developing a tech that will let us generate in-game items via text inputs (probably voice too). Customization items like armor, helmets, and cosmetic items like clothing I guess. And if you don't like something you can change it.

I like the idea, could be really great if i can make my own gear the way i want to but here's my problem, some greedy dev is going to use this tech and link it to in-game currency, and then make that currency so hard to get that you end up going to their store to buy a currency pack.

I dont think this is happening anytime soon, might not even happen for PS5 but who knows. And similar patents came up before so this is what we are heading towards in the future, generative AI; you say stuff and it builds it for you in-game. There is also a Sony tech that lets you generate 3D items using voice commands which is probably to help developers but the new one is 100% targeted at players.

    1. Patents do not mean anyone is working on it or it’s going to happen.

The patent system heavily incentivises companies to patent everything they can think of, even if they will never use it.

    2. Don’t use the trail they lay out on the way to the future you describe. Stay aware of nudging, play games for the experience not for virtual rewards. They can only go so far as we go along with them.

    3. There’s a 0% chance that this doesn’t get full on monetized as a crazy DLC ability or microtransactions to make these changes. I’d like to think this tech could just be used as an added bonus in a game. But how else will they nickel and dime us?

They are probably trying to prevent it from becoming a reality. This would ruin the current mtx business model.

i hate ai so fucking much, this is all just a grift. it will never happen, it physically cannot be implemented into any future games, let alone EXISTING games like destiny 2. how do you make ai follow your existing art style? how do you let it know warlock armor looks SPECIFICALLY like robes and NEVER anything else? how do you go about the texturing? what happens if the item looks completely out of place in the game world? fuck this

Yeah, didn’t xbox have an advertise the same concept for their kinect a over a decade ago? I thought there was a trailer where someone held up their skateboard to scan and use in game.

Doesn’t imply any intention to use them. If Sony owns the patent and a new tech comes out utilizing the framework in those patents, guess who gets paid out?

that isn’t how games work not gonna happen on any games that don’t allow it
