A journalistic outlet reporting on this using their own “leading theory” with no mention of having reached out to either Amazon or Nintendo to get an official statement is a failure of responsibility.

Because Nintendo wants you to just buy your digital games straight from the eShop without dealing with Amazon, and Amazon wants you to buy your digital games straight from Amazon without having to ship you a physical card.

I remember buying physical cards for 20€, which was exactly enough for free shipping back then, many years ago.
Didn’t take them long to lower the price to 19.99€ lol

Unfortunate, and I hope it gets rectified. The eShop is weird a with my Visa CC (non US), so I’ve been mostly using Amazon to get my Switch and PSN cards. Having fewer options is never a good thing.

I’m assuming it’ll be because amazon takes a cut of the profit off the top of whatever goes to nintendo, it’s why companies like Valve stopped selling steam gift cards in stores (at least here in the UK, idk about everywhere else)

Looked it up on Amazon and I’m seeing them show up, weird.

For those in the US, you can buy $50 digital eShop cards for $45 from Costco. Not worth getting a Costco membership over, but a nice perk of you already have a membership. They also have similar deals for Playstation and Xbox cards ($90 for a 4x$25 digital cards)
