I’m a hardcore fan of the Devil May Cry series. But in spite of that, I’m gonna say that Stellar Blade did one thing better than DMC5. And that is to add “Boss Challenge” mode.

Also, the boss rush mode (basically “Boss Challenge” mode) was always a thing in the DMC series. For example:

      1. In DMC3, all the previous bosses came back in “Mission 18” before the last two missions no. 19 and 20.

      2. In DMC4, all the previous bosses came back in “Mission 19” before the last mission no. 20.

And that’s why we DMC fans have been asking for a “Boss Rush” mode in DMC5 for a long time. But we didn’t get it at all.

So kudos to Stellar Blade for giving a “Boss Challenge” mode. 🫡

    2. Every character action, or Souls/Soulslike should have a boss challenge mode.

    3. As much as I love the dmc series. I gotta say that the enemies are completely outclassed, if you compare it to stellar blade and soulslike games. I feel like player expression in combat isn’t as valued these days as great enemies and bosses are.

I think that the shift from the industry to take notes from fromsotware, when designing enemies is a must when making combat/character action type games these days.

God of war is a great example of taking notes, and changing their formular accordingly. It has far better combat than dmc because of that. It kept it’s hack n slash roots while improving their enemy encounter’s. While dmc kept it’s arcadey nature (it should keep that) and horribly boring enemies (not that).

    4. Agreed. Boss fights are usually the most fun parts of an action game. A boss rush mode should be included in every action game.
