Well you gotta have a completed file to do ng plus anyway so I assume it should really be that big of a deal

Don’t worry about it. Since you completed the game it will carry all the progress to the new game plus.

Yes I’m sure. You only lose the progress of an incomplete new game plus run if you choose to restart. You will still have the progress of your first game run.
