If these companies actually meant it they would’ve made a statement like this 12 years ago instead of just now.

“We provide controls that let players customize their gaming experience. We support parents with the tools and information necessary to help them customize appropriate gaming experiences for their children.” This is coming from the only AAA gaming company in the world that goes out of their way to exclude accessibility controls in their games. You can’t even turn off the music in most Nintendo titles…

I do remember going online for the first time with Mario Kart Wii, one of the first times I ever played games online (yeah, being a Nintendo fanboy meant I was late to the party, and never really did this during childhood). One of my opponents in my very first online race had a Mii based on Adolf Hitler. There was no “report” button, so they got away with it. I am glad that we have moved beyond this era, especially since there are now children growing up with online gaming.
