Okay, I can comment on this.. they are abrasions or scratches from the lower screen edge. Debris got in there and when closed, over time and movement, it scratches the screen. One of mine has these as well. Bought used. They won’t clean off.

These are rub and impact marks from the top screen impacting the lower mid shell, specifically the area around the touchscreen. This is a manufacturing issue, where they didn’t use thick enough rubber nubs on the top shell as a buffer.
Put a screen protector on your top screen and forget about it. Aftermarket screen lenses will NOT match originals due to lacking coatings. The damage is already done, and I’d recommend putting a glass protector over it.
To stop this from continuing, I’d suggest buying some cheap silicone nubs and sticking on the lower shell. I actually started a thread on this topic last year, detailing which to order. I put them on all my 3ds, and it provides sufficient buffer room to stop this.

Suggest put a small cloth beween the screens when closing the lid , but nothing can be done about existing damage.
