Touch the metal box after a game session see if it’s hot to the touch. Metal radiates heat. I do not think this is the best placement. you have the space, why not just stand the Xbox upright and find a diff place for your tool box? Which is more expensive to replace? Is placing it there worth the risk of ruining your Xbox?

I would not put a heavy metal toolbox on top of a Series X. There are a variety of 3rd party mounting solutions, find something to hang it from the underside of your desk.
