Just yet another rumor but it would make sense with the AI bubble and price increases.

What I'm curious about is the money already spent on R&D for the PS6, are they going to throw it all away and start from scratch or are they just going to keep everything and launch a console with "outdated hardware" in 2029 (or whenever it's released)?

    1. Yeah I really don’t mind if the ps6 doesn’t come out for another 3/4 years. The ps5 is still in great shape.

Nobody wants or needs a ps6 yet. The final days of SNES era were amazing because they got to spend more time with hardware they understood.

    3. Good call if true. I honestly can’t imagine switching to the ps6 in the next 1-2 years. The ps5 still feels fresh and next gen. We just need more AAA ps5 games.

    4. Good. Too many people who never play games are holding out just for GTA to make it impossible to get at launch, now that won’t ever happen.

IMO this is likely a memory issue due to the price of RAM going up significantly lately and impacting the console’s price point and margin.

BTW am totally fine with this I could spend another decade on my PS5 and be happy

      Good.

Extend the shit out of it for all I care.

Feels like we’ve barely touched on what these consoles have to offer, let’s just slow down and let them breathe a while longer.

The PS3 generation was absolutely fantastic towards the end, let’s get that energy back.

    7. Not saying I need a PS6 in 2027 but if they released one right in 2027, I’d buy it day one, especially if there’s a handheld sku, and it plays PS3 games natively with up-ressing 🤷🏻

    8. I’m totally fine with this, even if they did release a new one the pro had been fine and it took years for them to mostly leave the ps4 behind, so I wouldn’t even have gotten it anyway.

Like because the fact current conditions would make it costs ungodly amounts for a large chunk of people what could it really offer?

    9. According to Steam the most popular GPU is a 3060 from 2021. That’s 5 years ago. I don’t think being outdated will really be a problem plus AMD is their partner they will discuss and adjust accordingly.

AI has pushed back the feasibility timeline of the product that they want to release. They don’t need to design a different console this way, they would have needed to design something else if they were going to release in year 7-8 no matter what.

    11. I’m good with the Pro honestly, especially this year with the upgrade to PSSR on the horizon. All games run at high res with 60fps+ anyway, there isn’t really going to be anything significantly heavy anytime soon that would require a PS6 to run well.

    12. I am completely ok with this. Hopefully 2029, there is still so much to be done with current Gen technology, IMO

    13. I think there’s common ground to be found between “start from scratch” and “release it how it is but 2 years later”. I think they’ll maintain the same concept but update the hardware, like a spec bump basically. With these machines being x64 SoC with desktop parts and architectures it shouldn’t be too much hassle in terms of devkit.

    14. I am fine with this, particularly in light of the high price tag that would be required for the next gen due to the high costs of RAM and SDD these days.

    15. Aren’t we still just barely moving off of dual PS4 PS5 releases? How is a new system even remotely in the conversation at the moment?

    16. As a day one purchaser, I can’t believe the value I’ve gotten from the PS5. Seeing the outrageous prices for pc parts right now makes me livid that I won’t be able to upgrade my pc for the next several years

I don’t get what delaying the ps6 even does? It’s not like they will make it more powerful because of a delay…we are just postponing more powerful hardware and a handheld…what’s even the point?

    18. I dont know why we need a ps6 or the next xbox.
Developers cant seem to make working games or even games that push these consoles to their true potential.

Hell, games are taking longer to make.

    19. There’s still ps4 games being made. With rising costs and consumer spending decreasing there’s really no need for a new console anytime soon.

    20. I mean they should, COVID hampered early sales and first party production appears to have slowed down relative to PS4 era. Economically, less people are able to afford a PS6 so extend this generation should be the viable option.

Optimize games better. Have a mobile option with mobile ports and maybe some mobile exclusives.

    22. I think it depends how good PSSR 2.0 is and whether high PS5 sales continue.

If they’re confident in PSSR 2.0 and people keep buying the console then there really isn’t any point in releasing another console until Nov 2028 at the earliest and likely beyond.

Especially since Xbox is pretty much out of the picture there’s no real competition. Nintendo will continue to have high sales too, but at this point a lot of people just buy both consoles anyway.

    23. beansoncrayons on

Kinds makes sense since newer consoles kinda had a later boom compared to the ps4 and xbox one

    24. What does anyone even want with a PS6 at this point? Games are running at 60fps with great graphics. Games load fast cause of the SSD.

I wouldn’t mind skipping PS6 and making a Switch like system that plays PS5 games.

Could even make a PS5 PRO2 in 2yrs that way games can work for that or the base model.
