Welp, this is it. Never thought it'd happen to me, but last night my switch 2 and every single switch game I own was stolen from me.

Yesterday I travelled five hours by train to London to visit the Natural History Museum x Pokemon popup, and on the way home at around 9pm at night, somewhere between London Euston and Birmingham, my entire switch case was stolen off the top of my bag. I have nobody to blame but myself. I had dozed off on the table and left it next to me on the seat, Im just surprised someone had the gall to do it on a packed to the seams train

The case had all of my games stored in it, too. Well over £1000 gone in the blink of an eye and I think this is something that is going to haunt me for the rest of my life

That switch had everything from the very beginning on it, every single one of my treasured pokemon, as I move them forward with each generation. My first starter, the feraligatr from silver, my favourite pokemon, the sneasel from heartgold, and as Im a shiny hunter, well over 1000 shiny pokemon scattered across multiple games. Thousands and thousands of hours lost, my animal crossing island that got me through covid, everything

Theres no way Im ever going to afford another switch 2 and my games for at least a few years. Ive just lost my job and Im not getting another one due to my injury and disability, which just barely covers my rent. I just wanted to have a bit of a vent and say goodbye to the community Ive been so enveloped in all my life. Maybe one day I'll join you again!

And if anyone lives between London and Birmingham and happens to see a switch 2 with a full case of games in a BOTW themed carry case for sale anywhere online…let me know. It had pokemon stickers on the back and a green silicone cover, but I doubt the thief wouldn't remove them

    Farewell for now 🙁

Edit: I was told I should make a gofundme, and I really don't expect anyone to donate, but if you do, thank you so so much!!

Were ur games physical? Did u had any virtual ones? I’m sorry, I can’t imagine how terrible you feel 🙁

    2. Well, you could always blame the their too.

Do you own lots of digital games? At least those would be retrievable.

    3. I’m so sorry for your loss. I have similar nostalgic data ranging from gen 3 Pokemon to – treasured animal crossing town that I would hate to lose. Sometimes I question why I treasure these “physical” things as much as the experiences I had playing games. Sometimes I wish my data would be wiped just to force me to let go of these ultimately unimportant things. Maybe if your feelings are similar you can use this opportunity to do the same. Live in the gaming moment.

Man that fucking sucks. Can you get in touch with British rail / midlands railway and report it stolen? Do they have cctv in the carriages?

      Call Nintendo

They can give you the serial number, which you can use to report it to the police

The police likely won’t do much at first, but they can give nintendo’s legal team a subpoena to help give them things like its most recent IP address and help them hopefully track it down

(Edit: I’m American. Idk if it’s different for Europe, but I’d still try)

    6. It’s infuriating that Pokémon games don’t save to the cloud. Especially when stuff like this happens. I’m so sorry OP. I know it’s a long shot but here’s to hoping it somehow makes its way back to you 🤞🏼

    7. I got my Pokémon silver stolen with an almost complete Pokédex when I was around ten, that’s also when I stopped playing Pokémon. Last year I started playing fire red, emulated on my phone, then soul silver – I also used a 3DS to transfer the Pokémon’s to Pokémon home, I now have all the Pokémon I lost back. Do what you will with that information, I hope you get your stuff back.

    8. I know the switch is meant to be mobile, but I took it as mobile that I can play anywhere in my house. I would never take it out of my home because, well, people just suck. Sorry you had to learn that the hard way.

    9. The trains around London are full of thieves.

Was sat across from a passenger that had his MacBook stolen while he was helping his elderly mum sit down. The train hadn’t even set off yet. All happened in 30 seconds.

I hope you get your switch back somehow. It’s a shame Pokémon data isn’t on the cloud

    10. Im so fucking sorry to hear that, i dont even know what to say but i feel like i have to comment. I truly feel your pain, but please dont beat yourself up about this. And i hope that in the future, you will have the means to get a new console. I wish you all the best in the future!

    11. That sucks so so so bad omg 🙁 i hope you can get your switch back op!! If not, maybe for the nostalgia you can get a ds?? They’re not that expensive anymore i believe

    12. Sorry to hear man, I know it sucks. When I was in community college I was attending summer sessions and most of the time the campus was pretty empty during summer. Growing up in NY I was always leery of my stuff being unattended and just kept my bag with me at all times no matter how briefly I was leaving my spot during downtimes between classes. Anyway the one day for whatever reason I figure I’ve barely seen anyone around all summer and I need to use the restroom and don’t feel like bringing all of my stuff. (I felt like the student lounge was mine all summer anyway)
So I go to do my business and left my bag. In my bag was my PSP 2nd gen with all of my games in the carrying case. And I was in the middle of FF7 Crisis Core, and loving it. Needless to say I came back and my bag was opened and my psp was gone. Luckily they left my laptop, but the psp nicely packaged in the carrying case was an easy snatch I guess.
I filed it missing with the front office but I had no real hope of getting back. And I never did sadly. Now this was 20+ years ago and I never replaced the system, but it still sucks.
      I feel your pain.

Sorry to hear man! People are honestly so scummy.
I feel your pain as I had a full custom bmx and my son’s BMX stolen from the back of my work pick up from home.
More sentimental for me but it’s shit when something you worked hard for is taken away.
I hope you get some form of remedy

    14. Omg, I cannot imagine what you are going through right now, this would absolutely traumatise me for life. I had my car looted few months back, stole around £50 worth of cash and my Xbox Series X controller, that was the first time I’ve been robbed and I felt absolutely devastated, now I feel so anxious, even in my own home because of the incident so I couldn’t even imagine what you’re feeling right now, I am so so sorry for your loss, I hope this never happens to you or anyone else again, UK is a dark place now, I feel unsafe, if only things were like Dubai or Japan, like no one is robbing, everyone feels safe, shame on UK security.

If you have contents insurance, check that as it may have some cover for off property theft

    16. That really sucks. I have a lot of games and handhelds collected over decades of spending money irresponsibly. I always told myself that if it ever gets stolen then that will be the end of gaming for me.

    17. UndergroundWire on

This is actually quite a common problem in the UK. They love to snatch portable devices. I’m sorry for you.

    18. That really sucks. I remember someone broke into my car and stole my iPod about 10-years ago. At the time my external hard drive was dead, and all of my mp3 collection from the time I was in college to that point in my life (roughly 2003-2014) were stored on that iPod. At some point I was planning on getting everything off the iPod back onto a machine, but I just never got around to it. Some of the music on there were rare rips from sites like [waffles.fm](http://waffles.fm) that were no longer out physically. It was a major bummer.

Ever since then, portable or not, I don’t bring anything with me on a trip past what I can’t deal with being stolen. You lost an incredible amount of time and memories when they stole that device and I know exactly how that feels. I hope you call the right people at Nintendo and they find it.

    19. That really sucks. I hope they find it, or, if not, you have the money to buy a new one again. And please put insurance on it next time!
