Digital Foundry: Oblivion Remastered Aims High On Switch 2 – But Fallout 4 Falls Behind PS4

    1. I saw someone in the comments on Youtube theorizing that the Fallout port is just Bethesda picking up a Switch 1 port that was mostly done, but wouldn’t run, and just pushing it a little bit to get it on Switch 2 quickly.

I honestly think I believe that. Had it “working” but couldn’t manage stability, Slap the anniversary content in there and ship it without changing anything else from that original build.

    2. I’ve already majorly soured on BGS as a whole, but this just takes the cake man. Doesn’t help MachineGames is over here with Indi and it’s genuinely unreal how good that game looks, along with a full physical copy. Meanwhile BGS just shits out Skyrim and Fallout 4 again and they look and run terribly. We should not live in a world where I feel more confident about Doom the Dark Ages running better than 11 year old Fallout 4 on Switch 2.

      Oof.

Well, I’ve always enjoyed fantasy over postapocalyptic, but man, that’s sad to hear. Poor fallout.

    4. Its almost like their performance is swapped. This is not at all what I would expect from either. One is seemingly a fairly impressive port (at present) and the other looks like the PS4 version with no AA and lower textures.

I was going to buy it… on sale to 5 touple dip but may as well just play on legion go a with how shit it truly looks.

Man did I avoid a turd with Fallout 4. I was all set to get it until they announced it was a code in a box. Thought maybe just get the Digital version when it’s on sale. Now I’ll just avoid it like the plague.

Bethesda has never been my cup of tea, and seeing these stinking turds just cements that more.

It just seems like everything they put out is crap? Oblivion doesnt run on anything, switch ports suck, starfeild seemed to suck, skyrim ports suck, what have they put out in the past 10 years that hasnt been broken garbage?

Look, I’m not expecting excellent ports out of Bethesda, but I also don’t read too much into DF analyzing game trailers. Wait for the games to release.

    9. It’s probably because of Skyrim. Everyone whined that it ran at 30 ignoring the fact that it was graphically upgraded to match ps4 pro/ps5.

We know from the eShop page that Fallout 4 is going to support 120hz monitor features meaning it’ll probably have a performance mode for 40fps or 60. It’s probably them saying okay if they want frame rate over visual upgrades then that’s what we will do next.

Also note that this is just DF making an analysis on the trailer we saw in the Direct. No one has hands on the game yet. Bethesda is notorious for giving early codes to basically no one.

    10. Was considering double-dipping on Fo4 (once it was on sale for a price that isn’t insane) but after that trailer I’m not even considering it unless they make substantial improvements to how it looks/runs. It’s unbelievable how bad it looks when you have other stuff on the system looking and running *much* better.

    11. They still havent even fixed the switch 2 version of Skyrim :/ its framerate is more bipolar than my mother.

As if anybody expected them to do anything with fallout other than try to grab some easy sales for it with no work done, due to the shows popularity.

Fallout 4 runs great at a smooth 60 on steam deck for crying out loud. It should run near enough perfectly on a switch 2 with little requirement in terms of optimisation.

Bethesda is just lazy as always and still coasting off their 360/PS3 era fame.

Cannot fathom why they didn’t just release fallout 3 and new Vegas for switch- feels like that would have been much easier

    13. I’d really like to pick up Oblivion but given how awfully it runs on my mid-level PC, I’m definitely gonna wait for some launch videos before I bite.

    14. I’ve never played fallout but enjoyed the show a lot. I was thinking about getting it as a Nintendo person but will definitely avoid it now unless I hear differently later on.

    15. I hope the oblivion switch port improvements get ported to PC. There were only ever like 2 patches on the pc version, so it still has performance issues

    16. Very odd. I play FO4 on Steam Deck all the time. It’s my favorite way to play it. I like to crank the details up pretty high and lock it to 45 FPS so the 90 Hz display has an integer multiple. It feels just as good to play like that as my 5080 desktop. No mods.
