I received my 3DS from Japan, modded it, and I love it. However, the top screen has these dark areas around the edges (also visible whilst the screen is off). I’ve seen this happen on other New 3DS XLs and assumed it was screen cancer or dead pixels. But I noticed something, as shown in the video I attached. When I tilt the console to the side, the screen is still visible from certain angles.

I have experience with repairs, and replacing the top screen wouldn’t be a problem for me. The main issue is the current price of a new screen. I was wondering if anyone knows whether this screen can be saved. I did see a video on YouTube where someone peeled off their polarizing film and it got rid of the screen cancer, but they couldn’t use the 3D effect. That got me thinking—what if you could replace the film?

I just wanted to know if this is possible and if I could save some money, or if I’m being stupid. Thanks!

I think in theory you could, but it may be a hassle. You could give it a go as the worst thing that could happen is that the 3D stops working if you’re careful and don’t break the entire screen. Worst case scenario is that you have to buy a new screen.
