Hi all 👋

This Megathread is to discuss the bad news around Bluepoint closure.

    https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2026/02/sony-makes-shocking-decision-to-shut-down-bluepoint-games

There have been a large amount of quick posts on this so we need to consolidate. A couple of those got removed rather than locked, I’ll be reinstating them shortly once I get through the log.

    Thanks!

    1. Sony can’t be this dumb. Oh man how can someone has this idea, and everyone on the board said “yeah let’s do this”… This is beyond stupidity. Hulst is the worst CEO ever, right in front of Phil Spencer

    2. I’ve been saying it elsewhere but Sony’s execs are destroying the PS brand and dealing major damage to the industry at large. Nintendo isn’t bleeding studios like this because they aren’t trying to inject live service into everything. Hulst and the rest of them are just multi-million dollar gambling addicts at this point. I personally hope all their live service initiatives fail. They’re largely a cancer on the industry.

    3. This should have been a slam dunk. Make remakes and reimaginings of old games. Sad it has come to this.

    4. My disappointment is immeasurable. This was one of those studios where I was so excited to see what they had next. I hope someday there is a book behind the entire live service push, I feel like there have been so many bad decisions, and it would be so interesting to be a fly on the wall for some of these decisions and whatever logic is behind them.

So make them work on a GoW live service instead of their original game, cancel the live service and then takes them behind the barn.

    6. This is heartbreaking. I genuinely don’t understand what is going through the heads of those on top. Bluepoint is such a beloved studio who makes amazing games and they’re being punished because they were pushed into making live service nonsense that I’m sure wasn’t an internal decision of their own making.

    7. Sad. I know Demon’s Souls remake was somewhat controversial in terms of faithfulness in art direction to the original but I still really enjoyed it and would’ve loved to see more remakes from this studio. Huge L

Brutal. I know people had mixed feelings about the Demon Souls remake but I thought it was pretty fantastic and that it was a nice love letter to fans of the original game while also being an easily accessible and modern way to play it.

So many of Sony’s recent mishandlings with studios and projects has left a very sour taste in my mouth and a lot of these devs deserve so much better. I hope they wake up and start to realize they shouldn’t go all in on love service games and focus on making bespoke gaming experiences again.

    9. what a disgrace company. those multiplayer project are just dumb. not just because of multiplayer game but the studio they choose to make them. so stupid.

    10. I think it’s time for everyone to accept the fact that a bloodbourne remaster is now NEVER going to happen.

Sony “Sorry guys, we can’t have you remaking games people enjoyed and may actually want to play again, it’s far more important for us to keep making live service games made by clowns, that are dead the moment they’re announced.”

    12. Scoffed at Hermen Hulst’s statement when he blamed “changing player behaviour”. Reminded me of Principal Skinner: “Am I so out of touch. No. It’s the children who are wrong”.

We want you to keep making fun and interesting games, PlayStation. Then we’ll buy and play them. That’s it, same as it ever was.

    13. They demanded from Bluepoint Studios a GoW live service game. Naturally, they were out of their depths on this. And after repeated attempts to pitch ideas that Sony didn’t like, they were canned. Seriously, the whole point of studios is to make games. Preferably in their element. What were Sony thinking?!

    14. My dreams of Bluepoint getting their hands on Jak and Daxter have been killed. Sony has really fumbled this entire generation.
