Not trying to be a hater or anything to Xbox fans, 40 year old grown ass adult here trying to have a calm and positive discussion. As an XSX owner and an owner of every Xbox since the OG, I'm deeply saddened by today's news. If you haven't heard, Phil Spencer is retiring and Microsoft named an AI executive with no background in gaming as the new head of Xbox gaming. It's painfully obvious that their goal is to maximize profitability by replacing as many game devs as possible with AI despite whatever BS she spews from here on out. Her goal in life will be to create garbage AI games that are good looking enough to trick people into paying money for them. You might think "There'll still be humans guiding the process so that the games are good!" But if she's happy to replace the lower level devs now, she'll be perfectly happy to replace those upper level humans when they're no longer needed. I truly feel bad for every studio owned by Microsoft right now.
Technically, all hope is not lost. The only thing companies care about is money. If everyone were to reject AI and cancel their Xbox subs in unison it would cause them to change decisions, just like Disney re-instating Jimmy Kimmel. Then everyone could resubscribe.
I personally will be cancelling my Xbox Live sub and disconnecting it from WiFi before it becomes an AI hub. At least it'll still be a good BC machine for my old games. Happy to do this regardless if anyone joins me or not, I'm fine with playing retro games for the rest of my life. But I hope enough people do this that they reverse course. So long.
