So I found my childhood 3DSXL and some of the game cartridges. The charger is no where to be found. Should I just buy a new one or do what others have done and solder on usb-c?
Most of my devices are USB-C.
I'm a truck driver by trade and was thinking of carrying it around as something to do on my breaks between drops and driving. Curious on your guys opinions on modify Vs buying a charger off eBay.
Also let me know where you guys take your 3DS'!

If you donβt want it you can give it to me π
I wonder how big of the local range the 3ds would have to use street pass on the highway
I’d say just clean it up with a damp rag– other than that, I don’t think it needs any refurbishing.
I just did the USB-C mod on my old 3DS and I love it, but it’s a bit of work. If you’re good with electronics and soldering (and have a gentle touch to file out a bit of plastic to widen the charge port connection so the USB-C plug can fit), it’s definitely doable. I literally just posted a link to the giltesa usb-c mod along with my experience and thoughts– if you want to do that, go with that one (even though shipping to usa from europe makes it closer to $20 than $10. not a problem if you’re in EU). That said, I have another 3DS that I’ve decided I’m probably not going to do the USB-C mod to. It takes work, something can go wrong, and you need to file down some of the plastic, which can go wrong if not careful.

I bought this adapter a couple of weeks ago and it’s great. It’s small, you stick it on the end of a USB-C cable, and you can charge your 3DS with it. Way more convenient than having a full USB cable to keep up with to charge my 3DS. Great use of 6 bucks.
I would also recommend you look into hacking your 3DS once you get it up and running again. It’s actually a rather simple process, and once you do it, you can install a bunch of interesting software and games on it, like emulators and other fun things.
