Lots of people were ready for it at launch Todd, you were so proud it was breaking release records for Bethesda.
It’s just that, we didn’t get the game we were ready for, we got Starfield.
So, ultimately, I guess he’s right.

I was ready for it. Hyped as hell until I actually played it.
I played it for 8 hours on release and was done with it.
Nothing will get me back.
One of my biggest disappointments of my last 40+ years gaming.

Yep, it seemed like it wasn’t the game people were expecting.
Seems like developers like Pearl Abyss are much more transparent

People we’re ready for “Skyrim in space”. People didn’t get it.

I bet the whiners won’t come to the comments to say how bad Starfield is— oh wait I was wrong g

I played it for a week straight when it first released and haven’t been on it since, it got very very boring and samey
Hopefully a new update will fix things

I still enjoyed playing it even though it was far less than they were hyping. My main annoyances were in how stingy the skill tree was.

Yeah sure Todd lol. I was so excited for this game after the E3 deep dive and ended up being one of the most disappointing games I’ve ever played.

The game was too big and spread out. Even the most populated planets had barely anything.

Todd Howards inability to accept criticism is the reason why Bethesda Game Studios has gone from my *favorite* game studio to one that I no longer follow.
No one wants to role play in a sanitized sexless Star Trek knock off. This is game that busy dads can play in the living room without anything offensive potentially upsetting their kids hanging around.
Tainted Grail is unfinished and barely runs and it’s 10x as fun as Starfield because it actually understands what people want in a Bethesda style RPG, and the story feels like it was written by and for grown ups.
Fans? Todd Howard said it, and they even linked to the interview where he said it.
>”It is not Starfield 2.0,” said Howard during a recent appearance on [Kinda Funny](https://youtu.be/sX4rKpB97L4) (via %5BInsider Gaming](https://insider-gaming.com/todd-howard-starfield-2-shut-down-and-promises-more-news/)). “I’ve seen some of that, and for expectation setting–I think it’s the kinda thing where if you like Starfield, we think you’re going to love this. It’s updates and things that change the game, not in an isolated way, but you know ‘meta,’ using outer space and things in ways that we haven’t. But if Starfield is something that didn’t connect with you right away, or you bounced off it, or found it boring in places, I don’t think it’s going to change that fundamentally. But if you’re someone who loves Starfield and we think [you’ll love it]. We’re really happy with it.”
Yeah let’s not blame *the people* for Bethesda releasing a bland game.
I can already tell you it won’t go over well.

Great game. It was almost the perfect space game that I wanted but held back by a few odd design decisions. Hopefully this New update addresses those issues. I’ve been itching to play again but am waiting for this update

In a world where games like No Man’s Sky exist and Bethesda’s formula is so well known it’s incredibly deflective to claim people “weren’t ready” for a Bethesda RPG set in space. You weren’t exactly flipping the industry on its head with this one, Todd.

I was ready for it. I wanted adventures in space. I wanted emotion and pain and joy and catharsis. I played it for over 100 hours, finally admitted to myself that it made me feel nothing (except frustration and anticlimax), quit mid-mission and never returned.

Played through it twice on launch, haven’t even bothered keeping up with it since. Not really sure anything would bring me back.

I want the game that has all the things they cut because they thought it was too hardcore. That game sounded awesome. This one is just bland and lifeless

>Still, [Bethesda invited a gaggle of hardcore Starfield fans to its studio before Christmas to show them some of what it is still working on](https://www.ign.com/articles/temper-expectations-bethesda-reportedly-prepping-starfield-improvements-though-suggestion-is-this-isnt-a-cyberpunk-20-scale-update), so we know that more content is on its way — even if the fans themselves have suggested it is not some kind of Cyberpunk 2077-esque version 2.0 relaunch.
