      Boost mode is a literal game changer. Many games would still really benefit from a Switch 2 upgrade but at least the vast majority of Switch 1 games now look so much clearer on Switch 2’s screen.

      My only gripe is as someone who has come to enjoy gyro aiming, it messes up gyro aiming in may shooter games I enjoy. Otherwise for everything else handheld boost is a major win.

I was playing Bakeru when the update came out and while the game looked crisp on the screen at 1080p and mostly kept 60 fps, some levels with fog or tons of vegetation started dropping the framerate a bit. Others where I noticed framerate drops were Dragon Quest Builders 2 and NEO: The World Ends With You.

      It doesn’t happen when the Switch 2 is docked. Like the video says, most games on Handheld Mode Boost seem to reach double of the framerate they had on Switch 1 docked. I wonder if there is a power consumption limit set to keep battery life from not depleting that fast.

      Well, I suppose in this cases it acts like a Quality/Performance mode toggle.

    4. I love it. I used to play Switch 1 games on my S1 because it looked blurrier on the S2 but not anymore. Visual quality took a leap of years imo. I just rapid fire tested many problematic games and all are improved. I dont use touch or gyro stuff anyway so its a blessing for me in all aspects. I cant stop replaying my older games now xD

    5. Games like resident evil series and saints row 3 and 4 really look and play so good now with 1080p and 60fps

    6. This is amazing news. The biggest reason I bought a switch 2 was because this was rumored to be a thing, but never launched with. Excited to try out more switch 1 games. 

    7. It’s a wonderful feature and really addresses the probably biggest pain point for handheld gamers, especially those who previously owned a Switch 1 and built up a ~~backlog~~ library.

      I’m still genuinely surprised Nintendo added this. Normally, they avoid anything that is a little janky in some ways (games with touch controls not working, some games excluded for other reasons, overlap with Switch 2 patches, etc). But I’m really happy they did this as it definitely improves the handheld experience by a lot.

    8. I’m glad they added it but the implementation is weird. Rather than dig through the settings menu, why not having something pop up when you play a game that says “This game has not been optimized for Switch 2 but may be enhanced using Switch 2 Boost Mode. Would you like to activate it?” Much more accessible, let’s you decide on a game-by-game basis (might be good if you’re trying to save battery or if there’s issues with Boost Mode).

    9. how many comparisons do we need? yes, it’s literally the switch 1 docked performance, but on the go. it’s not that hard to comprehend.

      now if only the switch 2 screen can get a boost to its refresh rate to get rid of the ghosting/smearing

      Love how Nintendo fixed one of the biggest issues their console has had since launch and it was a footnote buried at the end of the patch notes. Did they really not realise how big a deal this was, or did they not care?

    12. While I really appreciate Boost Mode, weirdly the game I’m playing right now, Trails of Cold Steel 4, looks way worse with boost mode on 😅 it looks like some Anti Aliasing gone wrong. The edges aren’t as jagged anymore, but the downside is that the whole picture is way softer, so I’m guessing the overall resolution just went down.

      Other than that particular game, boost mode is great!

    13. We all know handheld boost mode is awesome and we don’t need more validation especially from the guys who think DLSS5 is good.
