Ok so when I said that this was actually a good thing people crucified me, this is actually a good thing now since we can just play 10 bucks less for digital

    2. It’s just bullshit marketing technicalities. They’re claiming that digital is actually getting cheaper and physical stays the same, but the end result will be the same either way. We’ve had this in Europe for a while

    3. Unlike discs, cartridges still don’t need installation. So saving the storage space is worth the extra price compared to digital for me.

Going pure digital will just end up biting me in the ass when all those bucks saved come back as needing a new Express SD Card.

    4. I only got Ult & Odyssey physical in 2018. Everything else on my Switch has been digital. If digital is indeed being priced lower than physical for Nintendo’s library of games in the future then I’m all for it.

Go digital if you want cheaper games. Carts are expensive and the world’s economic state is fucked.

    6. But you can resell carts if you don’t want to keep the game later. That counts for something

    7. That’s the impression I got. Lower the cost of digital because they don’t have to manufacture the cartridges.

    8. Cool. To be fair $10 isn’t about to make much of a difference to me one way or the other, but cool. I think most people understand physical copies being more expensive and those of us who value having that physical media are fine with paying extra for it. At least I do.

Maybe I’m wrong, but it feels like the industry is trending towards trying to get games closer to $100 to cover production costs while also hoping to drive consumers to subscription based services. “Games will be more expensive, but look at the cost of GamePass (or whatever)”. Nintendo, at least, has a nice history of physical media and I’m hopeful they stay in their lane as much as possible as industry trends change.

I know for myself, I value the physical media still.

    9. This feels like the long game of charging more for games at the start of this gen.

Then lower the price of digital, to where both physical and digital should have been, and come off looking benevolent with lower digital prices.

      It’s very smart.

    10. I don’t understand the announcement though. The point was that this change was prompted by manufacturing costs. But if that just means lower digital prices then how does this help them? Is it just them disincentivizing purchasing the product that makes them less profit by lowering the price of the product that gives them a higher profit margin?

And i’m supposed to just believe that? I can’t imagine Yoshi was always intended to be a 70 dollar game and they just decided to make the digital version cheaper.

If Nintendo had announced this pricing schema along with the launch of the switch 2 I think they could have avoided a lot of the Nintendo is greedy allegations

Their statement doesn’t clarify anything. They just restated the announcement. Digital games are $10 less than physical but this statement doesn’t mean they’re chopping $10 off the price. It’s still up in the air on what they’ll do to the price when a bigger release comes around.

    14. I mean, it already did. Lol $70 has been the norm since Dead Space remake started it. Sure, it could go to $8]. But we are already pissed it went up to $70 when they have been $50-60 for literally 3 decades. They dont NEED $70 to make profit. They WANT $70 to make gross (read: Disgusting) profits.

    15. I don’t buy every game that comes out. I think too many people are buying everything or buying too much. A few games a year at $70 isn’t that bad. Some titles will last dozens of hours if not more. I don’t find it necessary to buy every new title.
