In my experience it is normal!! All of my clamshell handhelds (ds,dsi,3ds,3dsLL,2dsxl) have had a little bit of ‘wiggle’ to them off the bat between the locking positions.

I know you already have a shell on, but I bought the clear shell that has the hinge joint and it helped A LOT with this movement. Basically with such a big screen, nintendo made the hinges have more leeway and are somewhat loose because engineering wise, too tight a hinge for such a screen that gets so much movement daily, it would basically break quite easily or after consistent use.
If you want, a clear shell with the hinge joint will stiffen the movement and keep your screen still 🙂
