The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will power up audiences in a vibrant sequel with amazing CGI action scenes. It's all fan service with a flimsy plot, but the eye candy is totally worth the price of admission. It's a must-see for Nintendo fans.

Can’t wait
It’s a movie based on a video game. Fucking critics calling the plot flimsy are a special kind of stupid.
Flimsy plot. Look man … It’s plumbers, a turtle, a dinosaur, toads, princesses and a space fox and likely more… The plot never made sense but we don’t care.

Yeah I bet the kids will give a shit about story. As long as people enjoy it.
Critics = 🤬💩🤡
Regular people = 😄 9 out of 10 movie
We all know exactly what we are getting going into this.
*I welcome the key jinglies*
I mean, that sounds true to the games. Is that not what we want as fans?
Obviously there was a degree of collaboration there, but Miyamoto is as close to a “father” to Mario as there is and he’s always been pretty clear about not liking deep/elaborate plots to be associated with the Mario IP. In a Japanese magazine back during the N64 days, he even said that he’d rather just outright end the Mario franchise than cave in to the (at the time) trend of inserting big cinematic plots into Mario games
Miyamoto has always viewed Mario as being an interactive cartoon (as in classic cartoons that emphasize gags and moments rather than plots, like Looney Tunes shorts or Tom and Jerry shorts) more than anything else
It sounds to me like this honors Miyamoto’s wishes for the franchise perfectly
Flimsy plot?? it’s a fucking movies scrapped together from a video game where characters don’t talk
people are ridic
Bro said the plot low-key weak and people immediately said “filthy critic, plot doesn’t matter that much anyway”💀
REALLY disappointing that it doesn’t have the narrative or conflict depth of the original Super Mario Bros game, which, if I recall correctly, had the story of “Save the Princess.” or the second game which had the story of “Save the Princess” or the third that had the story of “Save the Princess”. Or the fourth that had the story of “Save the Princess”.
I would expect a movie based on that rich text to rival any Kurosawa film, or have the detail of a Coppola movie.
Edit: did I REALLY need to add the /s to make it clear this is a joke?
Hopefully it’s more Nintendo and less Illumination than the first movie
The first one was…thin in terms of plot as well. Still fun as hell
Flimsy plot: if you’re heading to a video game franchise turned movie, a deep and fulfilling plot isn’t your objective.
Mario isn’t super deep about plot anyway so as long as it’s a fun watch I’m not concerned. This isn’t Sonic.
If the plot is on the same level as the first one, then I’m fine with it. I have seen many reviews say it’s a bit better though, so that’s nice.
Would I like a stronger story? Oh 100%. But I watch movies for entertainment first and foremost, a strong story on top is just an added bonus.
And I get the feeling that I will be VERY entertained by this movie. So excited to see it tomorrow.
The fact people don’t want good plots in this sub is wild imagine spider verse level writing with Mario movie lmao. But instead y’all ok with basic plot no wonder we get slop now.
We’re not here for the plot! We just want more! As long as they’re fun, that’s all that really matters.
Just don’t get all uppity up about it like how DSP did…

So just like the first one.
I’m expecting/hoping for this to end up like the Sonic movies.
-The first film was just a movie with a cliche plot that just so happened to have Sonic/Mario in it.
-The second film has way more elements of the games and is almost a real Sonic/Mario movie.
-The third movie can really finally be called a Sonic Movie and not just a movie with Sonic stuff.
If that last bullet happens with Mario, too, I won’t be disappointed. It’d def be nice if these could be seen as genuinely good movies, but unlike with Sonic, I wouldn’t mind if these continued to just be about the spectacle tbh.
And if you think about it, that’s very Nintendo. It’s just fun. Their games aren’t the home of some of my favorite stories ever told (Fire Emblem aside), but they are home to some of my favorite gameplay moments.
Frankly, if theater prices weren’t so high, I’d probably consider buying a ticket and turning off my brain for a bit. Since that’s not the case (especially if you’re getting concessions, too), I’d rather wait for the film to hit streaming. The coolest references will end up on YouTube in a matter of days, anyway.
I swear some of y’all are allergic to criticism lol.
I’m fine with that, I don’t go to Mario for a deep plot.
I mean it’s a kids movie. Heck I can take my kid who’s in the early years of grade school and he will probably be able to follow and understand most of the Mario movie. Taking him to “The Wild Robot” and a lot of the subtext is just lost on him and he just enjoys the explosions and pretty lights. That’s what the Mario movies are. Heck that’s what Mario is. It’s not complicated. It doesn’t need to be.
So like Mario, awesome
I just want Mario to sound like Mario
Nevertheless, I shall watch it in the theater this weekend
