My genuine question about all of this is, if people can trust Sony and other online service providers to protect your credit card information that a lot of people keep saved to their profile for convenience – why canāt they also be trusted with age verification?

I still don’t understand how this protects kids anyway, all kids will do is ask their parents to verify their account for them. The only way to protect kids from harmful content is to run government campaigns to alert parents to the dangers of being online and suggest to them to use parental controls.

So it seems to be only restricting the social aspects of gaming, like messaging and voice chats. I’m a strictly offline player, think I’ve appeared offline since my PS3 days š I’ve also refused to hand over data about me in regards to this act since it came into effect. So I’m seriously considering letting it be until it actually causes me issues. Even then I will be looking for the least intrusive option. I did attempt to start the process to see what they were looking for but keep getting connection errors, I assume everyone is doing the same thing? š¤·āāļø

BUT… my issue is that face scan estimates your age based on a quick camera scan…. so what’s to stop a kid getting an adult to just do it. I know it’s “technically” illegal, but you think that will stop it????? Age verification, is one of the worst decisions in UK government history, it’s a way to get biometric or data and claim it’s to protect kids…… Ā£50 says I still get abuse from kids online as this will do nothing…. AND rant over. …
