Eventually it was bound to happen, and I made a victim out of my N2DSXL with my occasional, yet fatal, clumsiness. It took a slight fall and now I have a small crack in the lower body just under the hinge and above the lower screen.

I am very lucky in that it is 100% functional and as of right now it is only cosmetic. Also, with the way I hold my console it will likely not be exacerbated through play as I don’t let my top screen support itself with gravity.

The issue is that whenever I see it or think about it, it really bothers me. It makes me think of my own foolishness and also there is an inherent fear that it will just get worse and worse over time to the point of causing real damage.

I’m kind of between two decisions at this moment and honestly neither feels great:

The first would be to attempt and replace the shell myself. I am not very proficient in working on hardware but it is not completely foreign to me. However, I have seen that this model is probably one of the hardest to work on, and I am not excited about the idea of potentially permanently damaging my console in the process.

The second would be just getting a new system and moving everything I have over to it. The issue with this one is that prices have gotten obscene on all 3DS models and I am not keen on spending this kind of money on going his route.

I guess I’m not really looking for advice, just more commiserating and baring my frustrations at myself and my situation, but if anyone does have any suggestions or anything I am definitely here with a open heart.

    1. That crack looks bad. I hope it lives through it. I really recommend using a wrist strap once you get the new shell.
