I got the core New with accessories for about $80 from a friend about a year ago. Never dropped but for some reason the rubber grips peeling off and some plastic parts just break lol wth. I dont even play that much.

Mine does the same thing in the exact same spot. I’m only about 6 months in by my guestimation. Disappointing to say the least.
Who said it was the best? That thing breaks faster than every other controller model I’ve ever used
Your friend dropped it before selling it to you. No way the plastic peace just “fell off”
I love the features and the feel. Build quality is god-awful. I’m on my third one. Thank you, GameStop warranty. I’ve moved on and I use the PlayStation edge controller now. I love the triggers and the shoulder button feel but I do miss the two extra back paddles. I also miss the adjustable stick tension and long battery life of the elite. The steam controller can’t come soon enough.
Mine….. must have dropped it (very possible), on the left side, small crack and peeling rubber. I use mine pretty much every day. I had it for like 4 years before this happened and right now, a little glue under the rubber part, should be fixed by the time I get home.
The crack is on the front of the controller but, works 100% fine, 0 issues.
I love this controller. It really is nicer than a standard Xbox one controller..
Mine is tearing apart like it has been regularly used by the Hulk. I am not strong, it’s just crap build quality.
Someone dropped that. Hard. Cause I drop my controllers all the time from a PC table height and that plastic is fine.
I’ll probably get downvoted for saying this but all 1st party Xbox accessories are and have been for a long time very low quality. They almost feel designed to break.
I could never spend that much on an elite knowing I’ll be E-Waste within like 2 years.

The plastic under the grips is thin and crumbles. I replaced mine with a 3rd party shell and it’s a new controller again.

If your friend ever opened it up, these sides are very brittle, especially while using a pry tool.
Your friend likes to rage throw his controller is what that is. Or he dropped it and lied to you.
