Booted up my OG Steam Link for the first time in years today. Didn't expect the Link to have an update available, let alone install one. I expected the servers to be taken offline by now

IIRC they even still update it sometimes with bug fixes and improvements
They didn’t have dedicated servers for the Steam Link. Steam just has servers. Across the globe. All talking to each other, all with the data needed to install the client, update the client, update Steam decks, install your games, update your games, and all that jazz.
Leaving a folder on those servers with probably small SteamLink update is nothing in the grand scheme of the other data they have available at a moments notice for the multi-millions of users.
