      According to TheVerge:

      > Sources familiar with the meeting tell me that Sharma announced that Microsoft is returning to using Xbox for its gaming division, instead of Microsoft Gaming. “Xbox needs to be our identity,” said Sharma, noting that Microsoft Gaming was a departure from that.

      Good. May the new baddie boss continue to bring back the brand’s momentum.

    3. Microsoft Gaming was so odd as a brand…. They didn’t even put it before stuff they owned

    4. If xbox restarts the console wars by making good first party games I’ll welcome the annoying fan boys with open arms

    5. This is an HBO Max moment. Remember WB changed HBO Max, to Max and then back to HBO Max? Literally this lmao.

    6. Tread lightly. I’m not discounting the good she has done but perhaps she is just imprinting an immediate positive image by “fixing” some of the bad that Phil left behind. They are still Microsoft at the end of the day.

      Good. It is a small thing, but keeping the recognizable branding name is important.

      Slash the Series S/X prices. Keep Gears, Halo, Forza, and Fable OFF from PlayStation

      This lady is proving everyone wrong about it but her. Everyone was very cautious about her becoming the CEO but so far, she’s done nothing but pitch great ideas, and she’s made changes already that are consumer friendly while still trying to keep the Xbox name alive. I really hope this pans out in the long run cause we need Xbox just as much as any other gaming platform/company.

    10. I mean rebranding is nice and all, but you still have to actually deliver good products and services to get people to buy into your ecosystem. Xbox still has a long ways to go before it regains the trust of gamers. This is going to be a process that takes years to recover. My concern with that is that these companies don’t think in years, they think ahead 3 months at a time, I don’t trust that Microsoft is going to be patient.

    11. Can’t tell me now that the way they villainized Phil and Sarah wasn’t on purpose. Why would they raise the prices so high and change the name and go multi plat and now are changing things. Phil definitely didn’t want to call it Microsoft gaming and raise the price to $30 just for this lady to come in and reverse both.

      They could have just fired him if they didnt like him.

      My question now is, what was preventing them from just doing this earlier? Feels like the last 2-3 years Xbox kept stepping on rakes and since Asha has come on board it has been constant good news.

      Either way, very optimistic right now.

      We don’t know what was going on behind the scenes or how the dynamic has changed, but gotta admit: She is looking to making the most of the breathing space to adjust the optics

    14. Given these recent consumer-focused changes, I’m left only to wonder what the hell Phil Spencer was doing at MS.

      It’s finally happened. Now even Microsoft is an Xbox. They warned of us this coming…

    16. They’ve really done a lot over the past few weeks. I’m impressed.

      This is a good decision. Big companies tend to fall into traps where they sacrifice their brand and relationship with customers in the name of corporate uniformity. It’s something only people within the company actually like.

      Xbox = excitement.

      Microsoft = boredom.

      I mean no insult to Microsoft. Sometimes boring is good. I don’t need Word or Windows to be exciting. I want it to be predictible, reliable and yes, boring.

      Now if they can lower the price of the consoles I’d finally be able to upgrade my trusty but aging Xbox One S…

    18. I like what I am hearing. Hope they will rebuild Xbox. I dont know why Spencer did the things he did but it almost killed the console.

    19. Man I really thought Satya was going to bring Asha in to be his super vehicle but it looks like he really is giving Xbox back a lot of autonomy. This is what Xbox needs, to do what’s best for Xbox and it’s consumers not to hit some inflated revenue metrics and appease general Microsoft shareholders at any cost.

      I gotta say – when i saw this hire I scoffed. Hiring someone from InstaCart seemed akin to hiring someone who had never played Halo to make a Halo TV show. But some of these small things she’s doing is kinda changing my mind on her.

    21. Bro don’t wanna jinx it but Asha been making some great little moves. Now all that remains is bring console exclusives back for the good and health of the platform going forward and she will have cemented herself.

    22. Finally! When I worked for the Xbox Operations Center monitoring the live services, store and all online titles… Xbox was where all gaming existed. Then Microsoft Gaming happened… can’t go in to too much detail, but things became complicated.

    23. Gex2-EnterTheGecko on

      Idk man it just feels like they are always scrambling and going back on things. Hopefully they stop screwing around and trying to see what works and focus.

    24. SomethingWetAndMoist on

      Can they just not pull a Sony and stop releasing games on PC? Sorry, but I’m not buying an entire console to play an exclusive game or two

      Wild to me that this person has come in to extreme negativity and has, arguably, done more for the Xbox brand in the last week than anyone has in years.

    26. Avowed_Precursor on

      They are winding up. Xbox is being primed for sell off. That’s why it needs to be an independent product.
