I love Smash Bros, but you guys are exaggerating so much just because of Fox and other characters. Their appearance was never planned as a future strategy. Not everything needs to be shit in a shared universe.
But the deliberate act of adding such “Easter eggs” into a feature film is not going to be made without a bit more consideration than “this is fun”.
If they were going to expand the Nintendo film universe in any sort of intertwined way, this is how they would introduce those characters to the wider audience the film series is reaching.

And it was already confirmed recently that it was actually Illumination’s idea to have included Fox in the movie and even the one to have decided the second movie to be Galaxy as well. It’s ok anyway as he’s not only a Miyamoto creation but also fits well with the space theme of the movie. For goodness sake people need to learn to think logically about things to stop thinking that some things included in this movie and even the first one were random! Everything has a reason for being in the movie. Fun Easter eggs for example are just there to please fans for catching them and recalling the games they allude to.

Marvel rotted people’s minds. Not everything needs to culminate in a massiva crossover.

Fox just felt like something that felt natural to include. You’re making a space movie, you have a space franchise with colorful characters

Honestly I view it like how it is in the games. Nintendo games reference each other all the time and you can make a solid case for them all taking place in the same universe even without smash bros. Samus showing up in Kirby’s Dremland 3 wasn’t teasing smash bros.

Just wait to see Sonic appearing out of nowhere like in Brawl. 😅

I have prepared my rectum for the downvotes:
I seriously don’t care if they ever make a Smash Movie. I think it would be boring, and I have no interest even if I thought the games were great (most, not Brawl). I know I am not the only one, but seems like all the ones who think like me are hiding in the shadows in fear of the repercussions that come with saying “A Smash Movie is meh and I don’t care”. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Alright, have at it! There’s the downvote button. I am ready.

Honestly I liked that Fox is in the movie to fit the Galaxy narrative. On paper, it’s ridiculous, but it did work in execution thanks to Glenn Powell’s performance. It’s crazy to believe it was Meledandri’s idea out of all places, I guess Illumination really needed that MCU pleasing

Nothing is confirmed one way or another.
