For anyone curious, if you join the SteamDB Discord they have a specific role you can join and they mention any time games go free.
There is also a mobile app called Steamletter that notifies you of free games (does EGS too), tho in my experience they have been a bit late sometimes, not enough to miss the free window, tho.
