He’s just mad Xbox did not want to offer a gamepass deal for NRFTW.

I kind of agree but didn’t his studio have horrible working conditions?
So band that when discovered it caused the studio to shut down?

Wasn’t that the point of Gamepass? The somehow unforeseen result?

Isn’t that just how subscription services work? Netflix, Amazon Prime etc, it’s a few prestige programs and a load of filler.

I also think that elon musk is missmanangin his wealth. And my opinion is totally relevant, it’s not like I’m just a random guy who may or may not have a vendetta against him, and I’ve also delayed my game specifically for the Twitter console while still releasing it on time for the Facebook console and pc

The key to the success of these subscription services is having a steady stream of filler content to keep people subscribed so they don’t just subscribe and cancel when the good stuff comes out. Unfortunately, with how long games take to make that stream of filler content will never be as steady as TV and movie content and that makes the slop more noticeable. For Game Pass to truly succeed the hits need to come more frequently and the near decade long dev cycles need to end.

They definitely should’ve been more intentional. I always thought Game Pass could’ve become like a next-generation indie game dream like Summer of Arcade.

The most played games today are Fortnite, GTA V Online, Minecraft, Call of Duty, & Roblox.
There’s no magic game that Xbox could have thrown in Game Pass that would have “made it work” better.
Someone that is subscribed to Game Pass Ultimate for a year is spending more than most gamers in that same timeframe.
A random Game Pass subscriber is supporting the gaming industry & spending more than most US gamers.

I feel like…it couldn’t have then? That’s the whole point of game pass, so anything other than what they did do wouldn’t have lasted anywhere near as long. Anything else is just regular game dev.

I think he kinda has a point when I think about how I use other subscriptions like streaming services it’s mostly that they have some tent pole stuff with semi predictable release schedules and then in between those releases it’s like “and what other stuff do you have?” And that stuff can be more hit or miss but it’s okay because I’m just waiting for the next tent pole
But I feel like Xbox has really focused on the “and what other stuff do you have?” Part and forgot to make good consistent and constant tent pole titles people wanted. Stuff like avowed and outer worlds probably would have been better received as stop gaps until the next bigger version of those games like fallout 5 or ES6 but I also think obsidian probably could pull a larger one off too
But I also think in some ways gamepass can solve the live service game problem and that’s part of why I think stuff like grounded and sea of thieves (and tons lesser extent forza horizon) has been so successful on gamepass (I’d also be curious to see ESO numbers based on gamepass)

I mean, eventually you stall on subscribers and that’s it. Not sure what the breakdown on consoles is vs GamePass subscribers with PC players taken out of the equation.
It still results in easily the best value in gaming for people who play a bunch of different stuff.

Way to make people not interested in your upcoming title just because you hold a grudge.
Gamepass has a ton of good games, including first party titles. I don’t agree that Microsoft is slopping out anything. The first party games are not the problem with Xbox or Gamepass.

Well he’s right unfortunately. For the first few years it was 90% just crap games and only really in the last 3 years has it improved but most of the good games are coming from third party. Other subscriptions tend to front load great releases to convince people to join whereas Gamepass seemed to pick every game you never would have paid for and included it just to be able to say it had content.

I think the bigger issue was that for years Xbox didn’t have much of first party content at all. They let studios work way too long on titles, that in the end while received mostly positive, weren’t big hitters. If they had a steady supply of smaller “double A” titles like that coming every other month, that could have been fine (and I thought they were working towards that). But taking seven years for South of Midnight, also like five years or so on Hellblade 2, six years on Forza Motorsport, etc etc… That’s just not working, and that’s on Xbox as well in managing their studios.

Most US gamers only buy two games a year.
