They won’t reverse it unless a regulation change makes them. They knew it would cause a lot of backlash from us consumers, but all they care about is the stock price going up.
The gaming industry is now run by out of touch executives who care more about profit than their users.
Then i’m unlikely to reverse my decision of getting the fuck away to pc the moment it happens.
I don’t expect them too.
Hate to say it but its the change going forward that we’re living through. We never went back to VHS, laserdisc, etc. In 30-40 years people are going to be shocked that we used to own physicals, it’ll be antiquated.
The amount of heads up they’re giving, makes this pretty evident. “Get your shit together, cause we’re not backing down”
Horrible decision has been in the works for a while at big corporation, more at 11.
The moment the PS5 came as a digital only version I knew this day was coming.
I’m sad as a physical collector, but I assumed eventually gaming would become digital only.
Guide books went extinct a few years ago, now physical games. Just was a matter of time.
This is because the next console will be like the steam deck. It’s why they are getting rid of CDs and pushing the digital store in 2028, right in time for the new console to be announced.
Honestly, i wouldn’t mind go 100% digital if Sony wasn’t trying to rip me with the full price for old game, no refund politic and the mandatory online licence check.
The only thing that might happen will be continued discs for the PS5 while the PS6 will be digital only. Even that idea is a stretch, but it will depend on the reaction to it all through the next few months.
Don’t buy a PS6 or any PS games. Only. Way. They. Will. Listen.
We as consumers can still do something by not buying digital, not buying a PS6 and continuing to buy physical until it’s no longer a possibility to do so. Fuck this decision.
If prices don’t come down in response (lol)
And theres really no way to play ps5 discs on ps6…then unfortunately that might just be bye bye for me

I’m really hoping they reverse course, otherwise my 30 year run with PlayStation is completely over. Digital only is a hard line I won’t compromise on. Either there’s a physical option that grants true ownership and the freedom to use offline, share, etc or I’m completely out. I have a super high end PC that crushes my PS5 Pro, but I like to separate work/serious stuff from gaming. If the digital only thing happens, my approach will change permanently. Sony is making a very, very bad move here.

They won’t but they will lose 10-15% of it’s customers.
They are taking the same route as Nintendo. We will still be able to purchase physical game boxes but instead of a Disc you get a small memory card looking card with a USB C on one end. It’ll be made of metal and feel premium. This Wouk also allow sony to increase the prices of physical copies of games to $99 and also lower the price of storage for the nexgen device. Book it.
Obviously, playstation handheld is incoming. And they decided to solve it by going full on digital. There is logic to that.
But there is also logic to players leaving Playstation because of this 🙂
Exactly. These rules are in place for the up and coming generation that will play their games. They could care less about us adults that know better
