I don't know how many people remember this, but years ago Sony got a lot of flack from gamers when they announced they would be shutting down the PS store on PS3 & Vita, there was a massive backlash that forced Sony to reverse course.
That was a great gamer moment, but here we are again, but now Sony is stopping physical media support, and while it is important to speak out against Sony for this, what is crucial is that we do not let up if and when Sony backtracks on their physical media stance.
Sony could come out and announce they will keep supporting physical media, they will keep producing physical media based games, but as long as gamers don't have protection laws put in place to guarantee their ownership of the games they paid for, Sony will try this again.
The PS5 Pro was Sony's first hint that they are planning to go full digital for the PS6, and with the announcement of support for disc ending in 2028, I can bet that we are close to the reveal of the 6 and it will be digital only, no option for a disc drive.
The physical disc is not important, we need to safe guard our consumer rights, that when we pay $70 to $80 on a game, that WE OWN it, that Sony, Rockstar, Ubisoft, EA, or any company can't revoke our ownerships of games we paid money for.
Getting disc based gaming back should not be the end goal because if we win the battle, we can still lose the war.

Don’t worry in 2032 we won’t even get a controller in the box with the new console.
