I’ve been hearing ‘open-world fatigue is real’ for more than a decade now, especially on this website, but during that time consistently the most sold single player games annually tend to be open world.

I guess that means vast swathes of yellow paint lol

Open world is not the issue. Boring, repetitive filler gameplay within that open world is.

Honestly the biggest fear I have with the game is that it becomes a meandering through empty space simulator like so many other open world games in the post BOTW era. I get exhausted and bored real fast with all the empty space. These games tend to be more about “you can go anywhere and do anything” but the content tends to be so diluted it’s like…ok but there isn’t really much *to* do.
Storytelling also tends to suffer in these games because the devs have no idea where you’re going to go. I would much rather them repeat rebirth’s maps (just with different content) than have a ton of empty fields.

The best cure for open world fatigue is good sidequests/content to fill the world. If you can’t do that, make the world smaller.
I enjoyed most side content from rebirth, but Gongaga was the only annoying place to traverse. There’s no benefit or upside to making the zone confusing.

This was originally supposed to be a remake of the original so I don’t trust anything they say.

Yeah, blame the players for getting bored with your open world by saying they play too many open world games.
I just finished remake and really enjoyed it, I am about to start rebirth but am nervous because of all the negativity over how it over stays its welcome with pointless side content. If you can make an engaging and alive feeling open world players will not feel fatigue.

It’s already an open world game. Just try your best not to fill it up with random bullshit that has nothing to do with the original.

Playing part 16 now…. The side Quests are just walking simulators…. Incredible lack of creativity

Open worlds are boring when you fill them with checklist shite. Rebirth could have had that cut in half, fleshed out the final chapter location and been the perfect middle game. Instead, it was an overhyped mess that was far more of a slog to finish than it needed to be.
