It's a case with hinges and apparently it reduces hinge wobble. That's what i want for my New 3DS XL, but i've also heard that those types of cases can break your 3DS's hinges. So what do i do?

I have bought one of these for my GBA SP, my New 3DS and my DSi XL.
The one for the New 3DS (not XL) was not the correct size or maybe the one I got was a defect, it had too much pressure on the hinges when opening the console, I had to trim one of the sides so it can open and close without issues. My New 3DS is in perfect shape, it’s not swollen or bent in any way and I don’t have stickers or other stuff on the console that might change its size, that’s why I’m thinking on buying another one of these for protecting it.
The ones for my GBA SP and DSi XL are perfect though. I hope my experience can help you.
