CD Projekt Red: If you want a cost-driven development, you cannot make The Witcher 4. CD Projekt Red never considered charging for The Witcher 3 Remastered.

I’m rooting for them but that’s the exact same of corporate PR bullshit they kept repeating before CP2077. Be careful everybody. Corporations aren’t your friends.

Yea, but Witcher is well established IP coming off a very successful last game. The chances of it bombing are pretty small. Independent and smaller studios can’t take that chance.

As nice then they are, ofc they are charging for smth: the upcoming DLC. By now, everyone who wanted has completed the game. A free remaster gets them hooked again and more likely to pay for the DLC. This is far from charity

From interview:
> “It was never a question we asked ourselves,” Nowakowski tells us. “We were going deeper into the development of Songs of the Past with [developer] Fool’s Theory, and we started chatting: ‘Why don’t we make the game more modern? Everything felt like it was developed 10 years ago’. Because it was developed more than 10 years ago.
>
> “We started chatting about what we could do to improve it. It started with small things and then it turned into this larger project, and we suddenly realized we had a remaster on our hands.
>
> “But coming back to your original commercial question, we never thought about it this way. The commercial bit is the expansion, but with the game, we really felt this is the CDPR way to gift it to the players who already own it. It was just never a question we asked ourselves.”

I genuinely despise these fake consumer friendly corporate talk more than pure in-your-face greed.

PR will PR.
The end game for the devs here are to create a buzz for the upcoming songs of the past dlc
But having it free means they can make everyone back into witcher 3, basically a dead game, to maximize the potential buyers of the dlc
They obviously considered a paid upgrade. But they probably ruled it out because of the reason I mentionned earlier
CDPR is not your friend, everything is calculated. They forecasted more money selling the dlc if the upgrade was free. Thats about it.
Here’s the magical thing about this PR strategy here: players don’t notice the PR play here. They immediatly think ‘wow CDPR is great’. CDPR is not your friend.
Saying any project isnt cost driven is also a PR move. Everything is cost driven. That just the same shit they were saying before CP2077. You can bet that CDPR had multiple market studies with average projected sales depending on the launch date and platform targets and you can be sure there’s accountant looking at the numbers and telling them stuff they can and they can’t do.

Why all the negative comments. Be happy we get a free remaster. Then a 3rd expansion next year. All that negativity and you’re still gonna buy and play the expansion. Yes corpos aren’t are friends, but a little free content. Goes a long way. Also getting a 3rd expansion after 12 years. Thats pretty cool. It linking witcher 3 to 4. That’s smart business. Good day everyone.

Honestly with CDPR I’d be more surprised if it did cost something. This is just how they treat their older games, they update and improve them and give the updates for free. They’ve been very good about building brand loyalty that way and it keeps their games relevant and people buying them again and again years after launch.

Releasing the remaster for free and then selling additional DLC for it is a genius move tbh
