Bought a used Xbox Series S yesterday. The guy didn't factory reset the console before giving it to me. He claimed that he only had it for 3 months but used it barely a handfull of times, but the manufacturing date on the Xbox is 2022 so his statement seemed fishy to me. Also said the few times he used it was to play fifa and fifa isn't even installed on the console. Since the console wasn't reset, I was wondering if I could find any clues as to how long he had it or how much he used it, and I ran into this. How is it even possible to have a date older than both the existence of the Series S and the year this one was manufactured. Also it was updated January 2026, and the automatically update option was turned on, so how is that date still from 2019?

Time travel issues. Happens all the time.
Same date was recently on my SX too lol
Could be that 12/12/2019 is a default date if it never auto updated
If the XSS came out in November 2020, I could see 11 months prior being a hardcoded date for the software to fall back to or start from, if it was always offline, I guess.
The previous owner might have set the time wrong (while offline) or it’s just a bug.
Set the system date to 2018 and check for update, and you will find out if this is possible.
Every used console is sold for reason. Got Playstation 4 that had horrible coil whine. Sony said that it does not have, they just restarted console in repair center. Horrible coil whine still existed, so I sold console because Sony themself said it was ok and does not have coil whine. I would never buy used console without real testing it first.
I see the same date on my xbox series x, and i’ve been wondering about it too, since my console is only 4 years old. i’ve never looked for an explanation, but I’d be interested to know as well.
