So, as of right now, I'm not entirely sure if this is a bug or intended (cdpr hasn't acknowledged it as a bug) but the new combat in the remaster is seriously fucked up.

They have talked about the new targeting over over in their streams, but it actually fights with the player over control.

As someone who has played this game like 10 times, on deathmarch (the difficulty I recommend you play) you wanna have immaculate threat assessment. What does this mean? You wanna quickly and precisely attack the enemy that poses the most immediate threat. This is easily done by attacking and holding the stick towards the direction you wanna attack in. In the remaster, the game targets the enemy for you a lot more harshly, and when you try to do your own thing, you're left swinging at air.

In a nutshell, it's very handholdy and doesn't allow as much freedom. And believe me, having that freedom is essential on hatder difficulties.

I can't really override my instinct to attack while holding the direction so maybe it's why i feel that way, and new players might not find it as bad, but the fact still remains. The targeting is kind of messy right now

    1. Yeah, I think this is just how a lot of modern action RPGs are these days. Not sure when it started like this or why, but I can’t stand it either.

    2. It’s quite literally the other way around. Modern combat is less hand holdy because it removes the soft lock-on. Geralt will always attack where you’re pointing at, giving you more directional control, even if that means missing more.

Classic more is more automated, with Geralt still prioritizing enemies no matter what.

Yeah, I immediately felt the difference when playing the remaster. The tracking was out of wack and I was getting hit and recieving more damage than I normally would in the old build.

I feel this at times. But mostly it makes it more… Epic? I don’t know, it works, but sometimes I completely feel what you mean. I’ve learnt to tame it tho. It takes a bit but it’s manageable.
